Coolest Homemade Farm Birthday Cake

My nephew asked me to make this Farm cake for his fourth birthday. I did alot of internet searching to find a design that best suited him and this website was very helpful! This was the first time I had ever worked with fondant; I didn’t have a great recipe so I found it hard to work with.

The cake was strawberry and the frosting was buttercream. I put a crumb coat on the cake which made the piping much easier. I piped the grass using the grass tip and, by the end of this exercise, my hands were really hurting. All of the vegetables, the horse and the cow are fondant. The “dirt” in the garden is crushed chocolate Teddy Grams, for which I used a coffee grinder, and the driveway is crushed animal crackers.

It was a lot of fun; I hope it gives you some good ideas!
