Homemade Twilight Cake
I helped my 13 year old, Twilight obsessed niece make this Homemade Twilight Cake. It is a two layer 6" cake, and we used the red icing between the layers also. We used a lemon cake mix and made lemon flavored icing. She piped the black border using a star tip, I wrote the word "twilight" in white (trying to copy the font from the book), and we dug through my toddlers pretend food to find a red plastic apple to top it off.
My niece had the idea to write "bite me!" on the side of the cake. We had a lot of fun making this together, and it was so easy to do!
I use Wilton's buttercream icing:
1 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup butter or margarine
2 tsp vanilla or lemon, almond, etc.
2 lbs powdered sugar
1+ tbs milk to thin
add 1 and 1/2 cups cocoa for chocolate
