Homemade Horse Birthday Cake

I got the idea for this Horse Birthday Cake from here. I enlarged the blank sketch, printed it and taped it together. I used 2 frozen 11x14 cakes that I froze. I laid the printout on them and cut it out.

My 19 yr old and I spent 4 hours on this cake. We iced with buttercream and painted the brown on with diluted Wilton coloring. We used a darker brown and the Wilton grass tip to do the mane and grass around the cake. We used straight Wilton black to do the eyes, nostrils and inside the ears.

I used a foam poster board to display cake. For the writing I used the basket weave tip, then we used a toothpick and put on black dots to look as though it was nails holding it together. Before we painted the brown on we used a toothpick to draw the outline for the eyes, diamond and nose.

This is the first cutout cake we have done. Thanks for all the ideas.
