Coolest Hulk Birthday Cake

First Id like to say thanks to all the people who gave their ideas on this site. I made this Homemade Hulk Birthday Cake after looking at your lovely cakes for my son Jake on his 7th birthday.

I used two square 6” fruit cakes and after carving I still had plenty left over. I laid one square flat to the base and this would become the squatting legs and some of the rocks. I cut the other cake into an hourglass shape for the body and placed this upright on the flat cake and used wooden dowel’s to secure. I covered the body with white fondant icing (my children don’t like marzipan) just to get the basic shape of the chest and back muscles and added small amounts of fondant to give more definition. I then covered this in green fondant.

Once I had the body shape I then started to cut away pieces of the bottom cake to leave me with the legs which I then covered in fondant. The pieces of cake I cut away were then covered in white fondant and painted using edible gel colours to look like rocks and placed back around the feet. The base was then covered in white fondant and painted using edible gel.

For the head and arms I covered rice krispie treats in green fondant icing leaving the ragged ends to be used for the neck and shoulder joints. I pushed dowels into the fruit cake and then carefully slid the head on and arms on. I then used small pieces of green fondant to add definition like the veins in the arms etc. I also used edible gel colours to shade the cake and to add the face features.

Once I had worked out how to position my hulk this cake was a real joy to make and my son would rush home from school every day to see any new changes. This cake is one of my best so far.

Thanks for looking.

  1. OMG, this is just amazing. My Hulk cake is on here too – BUT yours knocks spots off it.
It looks like a moulded model that my son has in his bedroom. You are clearly very talented.
Did you cut it (or is it gathering dust after all that work).
    Awesome x

  2. Thanks for your lovely comments its great to get feedback. The head was eaten by my son as soon as he had blown the candles out and the rest was cut straight away for the party guests. I think we still have an arm but thats it.

  8. Hi thanks for the comments.
I used 2 6 inch square fruitcakes and i think they were about 2.5 inches thick.
I took a close up of the cake so it probably looks bigger than it was.
Good luck if you are going to give it a try and leave yourself plenty of time.
It took me a long time and im still not happy with the face. Would love to see how you get on.
    Kind regards michelle

I see that the first was white, but you have colored green or have you covered with sugar paste green?

  10. Hi Simone

I tend to use white fondant to build up my characters as its cheaper. I just try and get the general shape or outlines I want before covering in the actual coloured fondant. This gives me a nice smooth face but shows the contours I did underneath.
Probably not the professional way to go, but I think it kinda looks nice when I cut the cake. I think you could just paint (colour food gels) the white if you were happy with your figure.
    hope this helps.
    kind regards
    Michelle

  11. Your cake is amazing. It’s my nephews birthday next month so I think I might attempt something similar. A few questions if you don’t mind.

How big did you cake end up being? Height and width? How many servings did you get?
Did you use a template or anything to carve it?
