Homemade In Night Garden Scene Cake
I made this In Night Garden Scene Cake for my daughter Bethany's first birthday as she is a huge In the Night Garden fan. I'd got some ideas from looking around on the internet but wasn't entirely sure about exactly what I'd do until I started decorating it.
The bottom layer is a vanilla sponge and the top layer is chocolate sponge. I coloured some shop bought white fondant with green food colour and covered both cakes. I wasn't happy with the way the cakes joined so I coloured some fondant a darker green and pushed it through a Play Doh mold to make the grass.
I then added some shop bought flowers round the side of the bottom cake. I made the stepping stones and round flowers out of fondant.
The figures are plastic figures that I bought.
I was very pleased with the way the cake turned out and Bethany loved it too. I think if I made another, I may try to make the figures out of fondant.
