Coolest Indiana Jones Cake

The grandson is CRAZY about Indiana Jones and Lego Indiana Jones. We (grandma, mom, and dad) baked two 12″ cakes, 2 9″ cakes, and cupcakes for our Indiana Jones Cake. We layered the cakes and topped it with 8 cupcakes leaving room for the water to flow.

We then made homemade chocolate buttercream icing and iced the whole thing. We had a leaning problem so we used shishkabob sticks down through the center of the cakes and then wound up using shims covered in foil in the back to lift it forward. We did not carve the cakes flat, I think that was the problem. But all was well after the shims.

We used a regular decorator icing kit with the wavy tip and made the water, which was buttercream icing tinted blue. We tinted some icing brown and made the river edge. Tinted icing and made the grass. The rocks you see around the cake and water were purchased at major grocery/department store chain. We had originally bought M&M’s in different colors, but found these and we were shocked as they called them chocolate rock candy. They worked out great.

Then we set Lego people and items all over the cake. We had bought him several Lego sets and we pulled our decorations from them. We wrapped the empty boxes for his presents. What a surprise when he opened them. Pictures were priceless. We later gave him all the Legos in a drawer/cart set I bought him made just for Legos. What a great party. Everyone loved the cake. It took 4 hours to decorate and that did not include baking the cakes.

  1. This is the exact picture I had in my head for my sons cake…I can’t wait to make it for him. I started making cakes for my kids last year when he wanted a Mario cake. Thanks for posting it will help me create mine.
