Homemade Jack Skellington Cake
Three years ago I made my wife a cake like this Jack Skellington Cake for her birthday. I got a request for another the other day and here it is. I was curious to see if my skills improved. I think they did.
I made a base of chocolate cake with grey buttercrean frosting and did a faux fondant finish.
Jacks body is 4 layers of 9x13" pans stacked with buttercream and covered in fondant. The final color was added with my new toy, an airbrush. It was my first try at it.
His neck is pastillage I made, then rolled onto a cylindrical can and dried. Jack's bow tie is also pastillage airbrushed black with a fondant bat head.
Jack's head this time is rice krispie treats covered in buttercream and fondant, then hand painted with black edible paste.
I made a couple of pages on a website I run showing the steps I took. Soon I will add a write up explaining better.
