Homemade Jungle Zebra Birthday Cake

This Jungle Zebra Birthday Cake I made for my son's 1st birthday. The top layer is chocolate and the bottom layer is vanilla.

All the animals are made by hand from fondant. I covered the cakes in butter icing (for flavour and to help make the rolled fondant stick). I then covered them one at a time with thin fondant. I then placed on on top of the other before sticking the black zebra stripes on with a little water.

I placed the animals around and also stuck them into place with water. The giraffe has two tooth picks in his neck to hold it up.

The cake was time consuming as I have never decorated one like this before. With practice, I think it would get quicker.

I got ideas for the design from the internet. I took ideas from lots of different cakes and put them all together.

Very impressive....I'm on here trying to get some ideas for my son's 2nd birthday cake. This is amazing. I am new to cake decorating, but this cake has given me some ideas. Great job.

Yes, I used three rods to support the top layer. It was a lot heavier than I was expecting!
