Homemade Kitten Cake

My daughter Hannah and I decided to try one of the cat cakes from your site. I wanted to try out something using fondant for the first time and she wanted to help. We picked the Kitten cake with yarn ball we found off this site.

Wanting a larger cake we decided to use 2 9inch round cakes. On the top cake we shaved off the edge to give the cake a more rounded look. We used Wilton buttercream icing we colored pink with some food coloring. Then we colored our fondant pink to match the icing before cutting it into strips and laying them on the cake to resemble a rolled up yarn ball as best as we could(not as easy as we thought it would be but we had fun!).

My daughter wanted to make her kitten look like our cat so we colored some of the fondant orange and she made the kitten. Toes and all!
