Homemade Knitting Cake
I was asked to make a knitting cake for a lady who knits - a lot. So I decided to make her a basket of yarn. I stacked 8 inch cake rounds for the basket and carved them into the basket shape. The basket was then covered in marshmallow fondant which I cut into strips and weaved around the cake.
The balls of yarn were cupcakes that were covered with marshmallow fondant rolled into long strings. I brushed the basket with a lacquer made of brown food color dissolved in vodka.
