Kung Fu Panda Cake - Dragon Scroll

Kung Fu Panda Cake - Dragon Scroll

I made this Kung Fu Panda cake for my nephew Noel's 7th birthday. He wanted Kung Fu Panda but there are not many ideas out there yet so I decided to do the dragon scroll with Happy Birthday written on it in Chinese.

To make the top and bottom of the scroll, I took pretzel rods and rolled them in green chocolate candy melts. I let the first layer cool in the freezer, then did a couple more layers to make the rod thicker. After those were ready, I dipped one side of each rod into a little cup candy mold filled with the melted chocolate. I held the rods until the chocolate began to set and then put them in the refrigerator for a little bit. After I could take the ends out of the candy molds, I repeated the process on the other side.

I made the "paper" scroll part from rolled fondant tinted ivory. I placed the fondant on an iced 9x13 cake and then put the chocolate pretzel rods on each end of the cake.

I wrote Happy Birthday in Chinese with black icing and then finished off the scrolls with gold pearl dust. My nephew loved the cake, and I think the best part was his face when I told him he could eat the scrolls too!
