Cool Homemade Ladybird Cake

This Ladybird cake was for my friend’s little girl’s 3rd birthday. She loves ladybirds and asked me to make one for her.

I made 1-9″ round and 1-4″ round marble cake and then froze them for a couple of hours before carving them in to the body and head of the ladybird. Then I dirty iced it and covered the head with black fondant and the body with red fondant. I used more of the black fondant to make the spots and outline of the wing casing.

I finished it off with green icing for the grass just to neaten up the edges. I made some eyes with white and black icing, some big red lips giving a big kiss and pre-made flowers. I got from my local cake decorating shop because no matter how hard I try, petal paste hates me and liquorice feelers.

My friend’s little girl loved the cake, the only trouble is his sister has asked me for a sinking titanic for her 9th birthday cake.
