Coolest Ladybug 1st Birthday Cake

This Homemade Ladybug 1st Birthday Cake was my daughter’s first birthday cake, pink and green ladybug smash cake. To start I used Betty Crocker French Vanilla cake mix. I made the body of the ladybug in a stainless steel mixing bowl (medium size), very important to spray very well with cooking spray. Being that this was her cake to herself, I didn’t use all the cake batter. I only filled it little under half. The left over batter I made a few cup cakes with, that was the head of the ladybug.

I baked the cake at 350 for 45 minutes, then let it cool about 20-30 minutes before converting it on to a plate and chilling in the fridge for 30 minutes. I then gave the head and body a crumb coat, and put on a foiled lined cookie sheet letting the cake chill another 15 minutes. I used pink and green food coloring, and colored store bought icing.

To make the big spot, I used a baby bottle top, and star tipped the pink icing around them. The top of it, besides the spots were star tipped. The green spots were just smoothed on. The sides were done the same using a butter knife. The face was star tipped as well. The eyes and mouth were done in white icing using just a small tip. The antennas were white birthday candles turned upside down.

The cake for the guest were just two 9/13 cakes I made with Betty Crocker cake mix. I let them cool 15-20 minutes before converting them on to a large foiled lined cookie sheet then about 20 minutes in the fridge. Colored green icing, gave it a crumb coat, back in the fridge about 10 minutes. Gave it some more icing, and wrote Happy Birthday Gracey, free handed two ladybugs with white spots, and gave it pink trim.

I got all my ideas from this wed site. It was so helpful, couldn’t of done it without all the information from this site. Thanks.
