Coolest Ladybug Cake

I created the cute ladybug cake for my stepdaughter’s 7th birthday. I used nine-inch cake rounds for the two-layer cake. After making a basic chocolate cake I covered the entire cake in a thin layer of chocolate buttercream. After the entire cake was covered I added extra chocolate frosting to the face area and sides of the cake. I then piped chocolate frosting to define the face area and split between the wings. Next I used a small star tip to pipe the pink tinted vanilla buttercream. I wiggled it back and forth for the ripple effect.

For the spots I used whole Oreo cookies. I also added 6 cookies around the edges for feet. With a little extra frosting I was able to stick them on without any additional support. For the eyes I opened up two Oreos and used frosting to attach M&Ms. Tip: Let the Oreos warm slightly before twisting them open. It is much easier to get all of the frosting on one side. In addition to the ladybug, I frosted cupcakes with flowers and used silicone cupcake liners for the butterflies to create a garden scene.
