Homemade Ladybug Cake

I started out with one 10" Round and 8" round cake for this ladybug cake. I froze them before I iced them, it makes it soo much easier! I always use a mock cream recipe my mother gave me for the middle. Then for the remainder I use a buttercream recipe from Wilton.com.

I applied the first layer of icing with green coloring, all over. The lady bugs and fence were made out of fondant icing. I first used a 1/2 tablespoon measuring spoon and put a thin layer of red fondant, then filled the rest with black fondant. I coated the spoon with a little PAM so that I could get the fondant out easier. Don't use too much! Then with a straw I cut holes into the red fondant to make the ladybug spots.

Prior to making the cake I made the flowers with royal icing and dried them on wax paper. I place the white picket fence, flowers and ladybugs randomly. Then finished the cake off with Raspberry candies.

My daughter was delighted with the cake.
