Homemade Lightning McQueen Birthday Cake
This is a Lightning McQueen Birthday cake from the Cars movie. When the request came in for this one I was pretty nervous. I've done a truck before but never a car. I took the easy way out and bought the 3D car pan made by Wilton. Thank goodness! I'm not sure how well I would have carved out a car.
My favorite part is the wheels. I noticed a truck cake on this site where someone used chocolate donuts for wheels. I did the same except covered mine in black fondant. My daughter helped by marbling the leftover fondant and cutting out "stickers" to put on him. They look cute and covered a few cracks I made by jamming the tires in. They're hard to see in the photos though.
I only wish I would have worked on the mouth a bit more. Maybe set it in a bit deeper or made two white teeth pieces instead. Oh well. I'll try it next time. I'm sure I'll be making another one of these!
