Lightning McQueen Cake

Lightning McQueen Cake

This Lightning Mcqueen cake was made for my son's 3rd birthday party! I used the Wilton Lightning McQueen cake pan, however it didn't seem enough for the large number of people that were invited. So I had the idea of making a large sheet cake for the bottom (13x9 inches I believe) and decided to decorate it like a checkered flag!

I first placed Lightning on top of the sheet cake, decorated the flag, and did Lightning last. The most tedious part of this cake for me was the tinting of all the icing colors. I spread it out over about a week, doing a few each night, so that the day before the party, everything was ready to go!

Instead of using Lightning's #95, I decided to put 3rd there for my son's third birthday! For the eyes, I drew them on card paper, covered them in clear tape to give them the glossy look, and stuck them on.

This was only about the third cake I have ever done and took quite a long time, especially the stars on the checkered flag! But it was worth it to see my son's face when he first saw it!
