Homemade Little Mermaid 5th Birthday Cake
This Little Mermaid 5th Birthday Cake is a cake made from packaged cake mix and icing. I made 4 round cakes and then froze them. Tinted the icing using the Wilton gel colors and iced the whole cake in buttercream icing. Then used white buttercream to add the decorative edges around the base. The green ivy on the cake is also buttercream tinted green.
The rest of the decorations were made out of marshmallow fondant, which tastes yummy and looks great. I shaped everything by hand and then stuck it to the cake. The figures on top of Ariel and the prince were from my daughters toy chest - I did not make those. The sand is crushed graham cracker.
All the girls loved this cake and everyone asked where I had bought it. I haven't been many cakes and I was really pleased how this turned out. Hope it helps inspire you!
