Homemade Little Mermaid Birthday Cake
This Little Mermaid Birthday Cake I made for my niece consists of 2-12" round layers and a Wilton doll skirt pan cake. It's a big cake, using 4 cake mixes. I wrapped the doll in plastic wrap from the waste down so the birthday girl will have fun pulling her out and playing with her after the party.
The bottom tier is covered with white buttercream icing and I used a blue Wilton color spray to give it a soft blue watery look. Spraying the color on makes the waves look a little more realistic. I covered the rock in fondant and sprayed with black and purple spray to give it a gray two tone affect. The little mermaids tail, Sebastian, Flounder and all the little sea shells at the bottom are all made from fondant also. My daughter loved helping me make the little characters!
This was a very fun cake to make and I can't wait to see the birthday girl's reaction!
