Homemade Little Mermaid Birthday Cake

I wanted to make something special for my daughter's birthday cake and thanks to pictures online I came up with this Little Mermaid Birthday Cake. I was so excited when it was finished, my daughter told me I was the best mom ever and it looked like I bought it from a store somewhere. Usually I pay anywhere from 25-30 bucks for a cake at birthday time but this one probably 10-12, and since I used a Barbie, she already had it was very inexpensive and a lot more special than a store bought one.

It took me a half an hour to decorate it and probably another half hour to make the gumdrop starfish and fruit-roll up wrapped Barbie. I used gold edible glitter and yellow sanding sugar for the sand look. So excited when it was done and everyone raved over it. I loved it and will probably start making all of our birthday cakes homemade from now on.
