Homemade Looney Tunes Birthday Cake
I made this Homemade Looney Tunes Birthday Cake for my son's 6th birthday. I ordered a plain chocolate sponge 'slab' from Woolworths (in Australia). It's a huge rectangle and makes the cake really easy to cut up and shape. Before cutting up the cake, I painted a road and desert background on paper and covered it with plastic book covering and stuck it to the cake board.
I then drew the shape of the cliffs in the scene on baking paper and then used this as a template to cut the sponge into shape. After getting the shape of the cliffs that I wanted, I held the higher little rock formation together with a wooden kebab stick inside so it wouldn't topple over. I used a "Vienna Cream" icing recipe and just used food colouring and cocoa to get the icing colour.
The figurines I purchased off eBay and I made the box of dynamite for Coyote out of a match box and rolled up red gift wrap with a piece of string inserted in the centre. Everything else I made with cardboard etc to set the scene. Oh, and the rocks are from my garden! It worked really well and my son loved it.
