Coolest Maisy the Mouse Tallulah Bird Cake

For my daughter’s first birthday, I made her a cake of Tallulah Bird, who is a character in the Lucy Cousins Maisy the Mouse series of books and videos.

I started by screwing a structure with a 4-inch circle on 2 legs to the board on which I would put the cake. Then, I used one half of a Wilton Sports Ball cake as the bottom of the bird’s dress. Then I used a hole ball for the upper torso, and a Wilton Mini Wonder Mold for the head. I also used some of the Mini Wonder Mold cakes for the feet and wings. I cut the bow out of the 4th cake from the Mini Wonder Mold. I used Wilton golden yellow icing for the bird and Wilton no-taste red for the dress.

Several dowels and toothpicks were used. I wished later that I had run a dowel straight up from the 4″ circle all the way to the head. She was definitely a little wobbly and it made me nervous. I slipped an extra dowel in the back to make sure it didn’t tip backwards in transport.

The homemade Maisy the Mouse Tallulah bird cake was the tallest I have ever made, and I would definitely recommend more structure over stress for anyone making a cake they might want to move from the place they are constructing/decorating it.
