Homemade Merry Go Round Birthday Cake

I made this Merry Go Round Birthday Cake for my daughter's first birthday. I made it with help from the Womens Weekly kids cake book and cheated and used packet cake mixes. I am no baker (hence the packet cake mixes) and was so proud when I managed to put this together.

It was challenging but so rewarding when I got heaps of great comments.

I just wanted to thank the person who told us where to get the horses from, I had been looking everywhere for them and finally found them on eBay so THANKS A MILLION and also did you guys make the cake on the day or the day before?

I found the horses on ebay - "6 blank wooden rocking horse decoration gift tags craft."

You think they are gift tags but in fact they are the wooden horses as pictured in the cake book!

I had a nightmare finding them so hope this helps anyone else searching the internet frantically!

That is a wonderful cake! You did a really nice job! Btw, I use box mix all the time, but I do make my own frosting. No shame in using cake mix.
