Homemade Mickey Mouse Birthday Cake

Homemade Mickey Mouse Birthday Cake

I made this Mickey Mouse Birthday Cake for my son's 1st Birthday, as he just loves Mickey, and as I've never attempted a cake like this before, I was very happy with the end result!

I hired the Wilton Mickey shaped tin from a specialty cake shop, and I also purchased their pre made fudge icing, and tinted it myself.

I used almost 3 packets of vanilla cake mix from the supermarket, and baked according to the directions on the packet, but had to add about 10 or so minutes to the baking time. I filled the cake tin to 3/4 full, and it came out nice and high. Note, do not use butter and flour to grease the tin, it will stick, as I found out on my practice cake!! I sprayed the tin with canola cooking spray (you can also use vegetable oil spray) and it slid out perfect.

I followed the Wilton directions for decorating the cake, which are available online for download, and they were very easy to follow.

Decorating took me about 4 hours, that's including mixing all the icing to the appropriate colours. I was up until 1.30am decorating, but the end result was worth being tired the next day.

I was looking for some nice MM cakes for my son's coming one year old birthday party. Reading your effort for yours makes me TEAR! Wow! I am sure your son will be grateful for the beautiful cake- not that he will remember how it tasted like, but the love that you show making this cake!
