Homemade Mickey Mouse Birthday Cake

Homemade Mickey Mouse Birthday Cake

I made this Mickey Mouse Birthday Cake for my son's 7th birthday. He is into Mickey Mouse clubhouse. I could not find a Mickey Mouse cake pan so I decided to make the cake this way. I am very pleased with how it turned out.

I made a rectangular cake and froze it overnight. I used a cake mix and premade icing. I froze the cake so the icing is easier to apply to the cake. I then get the spatula really hot in the sink to smooth the background icing. I am still trying to improve this skill.

I made a paper pattern of Mickey and laid it on top of the base icing. Because the icing gets very cold, the paper does not stick. I then outlined the pattern with black icing. I removed the pattern and continued icing Mickey accordingly. I used Wilton tip number 16 to make the stars.

My son absolutely loved it and it was one of my best cakes yet.

I just made a cake like this. After I put the base icing on (blue) I froze the cake and then put a print out of Mickey mouse on the cake and poked holes for the outline with toothpicks. When I lifted the paper off, it didn't stick to the icing bc it was frozen, and i had a perfect outline :)

So glad to find your cake!

I was thinking about doing this same thing to save the cost of a Mickey cake pan and am so glad I came across your picture! It looks wonderful!! I figured I would use the instructions from the Wilton Mickey Mouse cake for the colors and tips. Maybe I'll post my cake as well if it comes out as good!

I'm trying to find ideas for my son's 2nd b-day, without buying a specific pan. This is the best one I could find. You are awesome!

I used Wilton's pre-made cake icing. Perfect consistency. I'm not sure of the pan size. The next size up after 9x13. I used Wilton's coloring to make the skin tone. I got the picture off the internet and enlarged it on my printer.

I enlarged a picture to make the outline and traced around it. I then freehanded the inside lines on the face, hands, etc.

Beautiful job. Where did you get your pattern from. How did you make the inside lines for Mickey's face and etc. to get it so perfect?

Cake question

The cake looks great! Was that a cake pattern or did you find the picture you liked and enlarge it for the cake size? Did you just outline his body and freehand the rest?
