Homemade Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Cake

I was inspired by this Mickey Mouse Clubhouse cake because my daughter is obsessed with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on Disney and I am obsessed with "trying" to bake cakes for her birthday.

The base of the cake is a Wilton 2x14 pan. I used the Wilton buttercream frosting recipe off their website. I used more milk than called for but it was still a little "thick" making it somewhat difficult to spread (but still tasted delicious).

The dome/house part is a half of the Wilton Sport's Ball pan (leftover from my caterpillar cake last year). For this I used the Magnolia Bakery buttercream recipe because I find it works so much better when piping. The head and ears are Styrofoam balls spray painted black. I had gotten this idea from this very website. The glove is pure fondant.

I just bought the box of premade fondant and rolled it into fingers and stuck them to a fondant ball with toothpicks. The foot was a bit of a disappointment because I started with a rice krispie treat that a molded into a foot several days before the party. Unfortunately it was not quite to scale. Oh well, still cute.

All other pieces were made with fondant. I dyed and let them dry all on the same day. It was much easier than I ever anticipated and I think the results are quite good. The birthday girl loved her cake and it was delicous. Really, I can't believe how great it turned out.

My only piece of advice would be to try to work on coloring ahead of time. It was much harder than I had anticipated to get a "red". I ended up using the whole thing of Wilton gel dye to get it to a "Mickey" red and it still wasn't where I would have liked it.
