Homemade Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Cake

Homemade Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Cake

This Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Cake was inspired by one that I saw searching for cake ideas. I used 3 layers of 8" round cake for the bottom tier and 2 layers of a 6" round for the top.

Frost each tier with buttercream to prepare for fondant. I used ready made red fondant from Satin Ice for the top tier and air brushed the white fondant on the bottom tier with blue.

The Mickey ears are Nabisco Famous chocolate wafers covered in black ready made fondant and are attached with royal icing.

The stars were cut with cookie cutters out of gumpaste the night before and attached to plastic stirrers. I painted the name with food coloring and a fine tipped paint brush.

The decorations were all cut from fondant colored the appropriate color. I used circle cutters and piping tips to make the decorations and attached them with egg whites.

The characters (swirly straws) and the candles were purchased at the local party store.

The colors on this cake are what really make it stand out!

Home Made Marshmallow Fondant
by: Sue

So many people ask...does the fondant taste good? I saw this cake & plan to make it for a 2 year olds B-day party, the mom asked the same.
I have grandchildren who are 20 months, 3, 6 & 8, they ALL eat the fondant when I make it. They actually beg me for it as I make it. (So, I do my best to make it when they are NOT here, LOL)
I have had store bought Wilton fondant, sorry Wilton, since I have made my own, I will NEVER buy fondant again. It tastes sooo much better & also cost much less.
I make cakes for friends & family. Lot's have said they didn't want fondant, but wanted the clean look. Most have told me after trying it, they liked it. Others...they peel it off, just like anyone would do if you have too much icing on the cake. No big deal.

Fondant
by: Sue

I have made the home made marshmallow fondant. I LOVE it. I get good comments on it all the time. Tastes just like marshmallows, if you like them, you like the fondant. If you don't like it, peel it off, there is buttercream under it....most eat it once they have tried it. I am very happy with using it.

Fondant
by: Anonymous

Great job on all the cakes I've seen!! Just wanted to let those of you who were wondering know, that the homemade fondant with marshmallows and icing sugar, is fabulous. It's all I use, I make it myself and it tastes WAYYY better than the ready made fondant!! Just a tip, just make sure when rolling it out, use lots of shortening on your hands so it doesn't stick!!

Peggy's Baking Corner is a website I found that gives you a recipe to make fondant with marshmallows. It's supposed to taste better and be easier to do. I am going to try it on a similar cake.

I love the look of this cake. I really love what can be done with fondant, but I've been wondering whether kids like the taste and texture of fondant? I would love to make a cake like this, but I wouldn't want to put all that work into it if the kids at the party won't eat it. What is your experience with fondant and kids' parties?

As I began preparing for my daughter's very special 1st birthday cake, I found this. Now I can't say that I am going to make it, but her Aunt and daycare Mom Tina is. I can't wait to see what it will look like. Thank you so much for posting a picture of this for everyone to see!

OMG! LOVE IT!
by: Cynthia

Wow! Its beautiful! Who ever made this did a wonderful job. My son's 2nd birthday is coming up soon and we're having the MMCH theme this year. So I looked online for some ideas. Then I saw this cake and my jaw dropped! It's exactly what I was looking for. I know my guests will love it too! So now I'm buying the supplies I'll need and I am going to attempt to recreate this cake design along with my mothers help. I hope it turns out as beautiful as this one. Wish me luck!
