Homemade Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Cake
My son loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse! It is the only show that he will sit and watch so it was a no-brainer what his cake for his 2nd birthday would be, a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Cake.
A couple of days before the party my mom and I made marshmallow fondant and colored it all of the necessary colors. The day before the party we covered the Styrofoam balls (head and ears) and 2 sections of cardboard paper towel center (arm, leg and neck) in black fondant, shaped the hand and foot out of rice krispy treats and covered them with white and yellow fondant and rolled out some yellow fondant and cut it into thin strips to make the fence and let it dry overnight.
The base is 2 9x13 cakes covered in buttercream and then the green fondant. (I don't have a very big workspace so I rolled out 2 pieces and overlapped them which I thought looked cute considering that it was supposed to be grass.) The body of the clubhouse (or the pants according to the show) was cake baked in an oven safe glass bowl and covered with red fondant. The slide was made out of a sheet of blue craft foam. We used wooden skewers and toothpicks to attach all of the pieces (probably would've gone with just the wooden skewers looking back) to each other. Rolled and cut out the shapes for the windows, door frame and steps and attached them with a little water.
It was a TON of work but seeing his face made it so worth it!
