I made this Homemade Mickey Present Birthday Cake for a friend's son's first birthday! He just loves Mickey. I came up with idea by listening to what she wanted and what would look cute together. I made the bow out of fondant, you need to start bow at least three days before cake. You roll fondant out to about 1/8 thick, cut 14 5in. long and 2in. wide strips. Match the ends together, and press together with water. Cut the cornors off leaving a pointed tip.

On an 8in. cake pan lightly greased, lay them on side making loops, let dry for at least 3 days. To assemble use the smallest three circle fondant cutter with biggest of three, press five to six loops with water on it, press second biggest circle with water on top, place 4 more loops, then smallest circle on that then one loop basically standing up let for a least two hours.
When you start place first circle on wax paper.

The cake was a simple white cake recipe, 1 1/2 stick of butter, 1 1/2 cup sugar, 2 cups flour, 2 teaspoon baking powder, 6 egg whites, 3/4 cups milk, 2 teaspoon vanilla extract. Pre heat oven to 350, soften butter, grease two 8in x 2in square pans. Cream butter and sugar together til light and fluffy them add other ingredients and mix until smooth. Put half batter in each pan and bake for 20-25 mins until tooth pick comes out clean. Let cool in pan for ten minutes then on cooling rack for a least an hour before decorating the cake.

Ice the cake with a buttercream, 1 cup shortening creamed, 4 cups powdered sugar, 3 teaspoon vanilla extract, 3 teaspoon butter extract, 8 teaspoon milk mixes until smooth. Roll out fondant to fit by making 17in circle put on cake. Pushing wrinkles to bottom helps makes it smooth. Then rolled fondant same color as bow 1/8in think 17 in long, make four 2in wide strips but one in center on each side of cake. Place bow on top where strips meet with some water. I found edible Mickey Mouse stickers for cake at store in cake decorating section. Place them on each side of strips and roll more fondant out. Cut out 1 and place randomly on cake.

For cake board I rolled enough fondant to cover board. I used cookie cutter shape like star, rolled three different colors of fondant, cut more stars and placed them in start holes.
