Homemade Minnie Mouse Birthday Cake

Homemade Minnie Mouse Birthday Cake

I made two Minnie mouse cakes for my goddaughter's 2nd birthday. For this Minnie Mouse Birthday Cake, I took ideas from various submissions on this site and similar sites as well as some of my own. I baked a 12" round cake. I printed the Mickey Mouse silhouette on the computer, cut it out, and used it as my guide to cut out the mouse face on the cake. I sliced the cake in the middle to be able to fill it.

I like whip cream frosting, so the entire cake is covered in whipped cream frosting. It's obviously not as smooth, but tasted really good. I outlined Minnie's face lightly with a toothpick on the whipped cream. If you make a mistake, don't worry, whip cream is really forgiving and you can just lift the mistake and cover it with more whip cream.

For the ears, I crushed chocolate graham crackers and dusted it over them. For the facial features, I just used black icing gel. I tinted a little bit of the whipped cream using regular red food coloring for the tongue. For Minnie's big bow, I made it out of sugar cookie dough and decorated with red and white cookie icing.

I always get ideas for decorating homemade cakes from here and I thought it was about time I shared some of what I did. Thank you to everyone who reads, submits and posts on this site!
