Homemade Minnie Mouse Cake

I wanted to make my daughter's first Minnie Mouse cake. I used two cake mixes and two different size pans. I used a bigger round cake pan for the face and one small cake pan for both ears. I used store bought white frosting and added food coloring.

The hardest part was making the white frosting into black. It takes a lot of black food coloring to get it dark. I still would have rather the ears be a little darker, but it was close enough. The bow I bought from the Dollar Store. It was actually a bow tie and I just cut the strings off and it worked perfectly.

Since it was my first cake, it did take me a long time- 3 hours to frost it! I wanted the cake to be the best I could do, so that's why it took me so long. I had a lot of fun making this for her and her reaction to it was so worth the time.

Black Icing
by: Diana

Just a hint. I have read on the internet that the best way to make black icing is mix black dye with chocolate icing. I am going to try it since I will be making a Minnie Mouse cake for my granddaughter. Just wanted to let you know that when searing the web to find out how true black frosting is made; that is what I found. Your cake looks beautiful. I will try to model after it for my granddaughter.
