Monkey Cake

Monkey Cake

I made this monkey cake for my daughter Olivias' first birthday party. I made two and a half banana cake recipes for the actual cake. I used a 16 inch round two inch deep cake pan and a 10 inch spring form pan for the monkey face and two small round dishes for the ears.

I then cut each cake in half and cut the shape of the ears out. I filled each cake with a mascarpone cream filling. I then made three batches of buttercream icing. One and a half plain white and then three pastry bags filled with one dark brown, one light brown and one light pink. I used gel food coloring to make the colors.

I then used a large round tip to draw the outline of the face on the monkey face and then filled in with a medium star tip. I then filled in the ears and used a star tip to do the dark brown for the rest of the head. I used the large round tip for the eyes and nose and the small tip in black for the mouth.
