Homemade Monkey Cake

I made this monkey cake for my son's 6 month "birthday" because we always call him our little monkey. First, I started out by making one large rectangle cake, a round cake, and a smaller round cake. I frosted the rectangle cake with chocolate frosting, then placed the larger round cake in the center of the rectangle cake for the head.

Next I cut the smaller round cake in half and positioned a half on each side of the larger round cake for the ears. I secured them with toothpicks (just make sure to remember where toothpicks are). I used a base of chocolate frosting for the monkey's head and ears and then detailed the eyes, nose, tongue and ears with pink, black and white frosting.

I got the palm trees at a party store. They are meant for drinks but I think they added a nice touch to the cake.
