Homemade Monkey Cake

Homemade Monkey Cake

For my friend's 21st birthday, I was really stuck on what to do. Thankfully, during a random chat about our favourite things, she went off on a big rant about how much she loves monkeys, so a monkey cake it was!

First of all I made my usual chocolate fudge cake recipe with extra chocolate chunks, sliced it through the middle and filled it with Belgian chocolate sauce.

I then drew my shape on with a fudge sauce icing-writer to use as a sort of template and carved the cake into the shape of my monkey head.

I decided to use white marshmallows for the eyes and pink ones for the ears to make the colours really stand out and taste good at the same time and so I carved the holes in the appropriate areas,

I whipped up a homemade white chocolate and vanilla frosting for the lighter part of the face and a milk chocolate frosting for the darker part. After slathering this on quite thickly, I then sprinkled shaved chocolate curls over the dark frosting to make it look like thick fur.

For the finishing touches I used a black fudge icing-writer to draw on the pupils, nostrils and a smile.
