Homemade Monkey Cake

I made this monkey cake as part of a set for a daughter in law's baby shower with a theme of Jungle babies. The cakes also included a giraffe, lion and elephant. I used a 9 inch round pan, a small approx. 5 inch bundt and a small 4 inch oven proof bowl to bake a single chocolate cake mix. The mix was prepared as the package directed.

I used the round cake as the base/face. The bundt pan cake I cut in half and attached with icing at the sides of the nine inch round, the tops of each half at 10 and 2, (as if you were looking at the face of a clock) for ears. The bowl cake I inverted for the nose/mouth part and put on top of the nine inch cake about two thirds of the way down.

I then used a star tip to cover the entire cake with chocolate butter creme frosting. Then I used a light brown ( white butter cream tinted with chocolate icing to your preference)for the accents/features such as the eye area, inside of ears and "snout."

Finally, I used chocolate butter creme again with a star tip for details such as eyes, nostrils, mouth and dimple in the chin.
