Coolest Monkey Cake Design

Someone requested a Monkey cake from me, but gave me no idea as to how they wanted it to look. I looked on the internet but nothing really grabbed my attention. I wanted a unique Monkey Cake Design for them. One day I was shopping and came across a chocolate mold of monkeys. I wasn’t sure if I could use it but it was just too cute to pass up.

I made a vanilla cake and I confess the best buttercream icing ever! I use Paula Deens wedding cake recipe and my own buttercream recipe. For the monkey cake I made 2 cakes and sliced each covering each layer in buttercream. Then I stacked them and dirty iced them. Refrigerate for about an hour.

Once dirty icing hardens some proceed with adding the rest of the icing. I drew a tree branch with meted chocolate and added the chocolate monkeys I made with my new found moulds. Voila ! The cutest monkey cake ever.

Buttercream icing recipe: 2 sticks unsalted butter, 1 cup Crisco shortening, 1/4 tsp salt, 3 teaspoons vanilla, 1/4 cup milk, 1 bag 1LB size confectioners sugar. Whip butter & Crisco together. Add salt and vanilla whip again. Add about 1/2 sugar whip again. Add 1/4 cup milk mixing in before adding the rest of the sugar. Once incorporated add the rest of the sugar and whip again. I use Wilton paste food coloring to tint the icing to desired color.
