Homemade Monster Truck Birthday Cake
My son is really into Monster Trucks so that was the theme I went with for his party. I was initially going to try to take the easy way out and purchase a cake but all the cakes consisted of was a car sitting on top of a sheet cake.
I basically just bought stuff at the store the day before his party and started baking my own Monster Truck Birthday Cake the morning of.
I made two 9" round cakes for the base. I bought two metal bundt pans which made up the truck. One of the bundt pans formed the bottom of the truck and then I cut the second in half for the top. I traced the bottom of the bundt pan into a piece of cardboard and used that to support the truck. Then I used two cake support cylinders to lift the truck.
To hide the cylinders I put chocolate donuts against the truck for wheels. I frosted the back of the to the cake so they would not fall off.
After everything was frosted something was still missing. Luckily I had crushed Oreo's at the house which I ended up throwing on top of the cake to make dirt.
I loved the way the cake turned out and it was a big hit with my son and his friends.
