Homemade Monster Truck Cake

Designing and making this Monster Truck cake was a lot of fun. I made it for my great-nephew's sixth birthday party. We have a large family so I used two chocolate cake mixes for the bottom layer cake. They are frosted with the buttercream recipe off the Hershey's Cocoa package.

I baked a white cake for the base under the truck and cut the windshield from it. I baked another white cake in a loaf pan for the body of the truck. ( I don't recommend that) It has a different texture and I had to cut it to even it off on the top. Four purchased glazed donuts are the tires. To make metal flake paint I used blue sprinkles on the icing. It was easy to apply, since the cake was still frozen and I could turn it every way I needed to. I used licorice pieces for the roll bar and the push bumper, M&M's for the lights.

Prior to frosting, I froze all of the cake parts overnight. I frosted the truck parts while they were frozen for the ease of handling.
I have to travel with this cake so I used toothpicks to secure the tires to the cake bottom. Thank you for the inspiration on this website!
