Coolest Mushroom House Cake

I made this cake for my friend. It was for her fist daughter’s christening party. The base and the top of this cake are made out of homemade sponge cake. I have used two different sizes of Pyrex bowls for the top and the base. I used the smaller one for the base. I had to bake them in a very low oven for a longer period of time because of the shape of the bowls.

I cut a circle out of cardboard cake base to put under the roof of the mushroom so it would sit properly. I have also used spirit level in order to measure the flatness of the base of the mushroom. I used fondant for covering the base and the top. I used flower paste for the flowers and the butterflies. I used cutters for the butterflies and the flowers and dusted the butterflies with the food colouring and glitters.

I used a garlic crusher in order to make grass for the side of the house. The grass and the flowers were covering all round the house in order to give more realistic feel to the homemade mushroom house cake. The rockery was also out of two different coloured fondants. I tried to make the rockery in different sizes and uneven surfaces for more realistic look. The decoration was glued to the cake with edible glue for neatness.

The paving was made out of hundreds and thousands. The base was covered by green fondant. The top had different size circles which also made out of fondant. I used a cocktail stick in order to give texture to the door and the shutters. Finally a pink ribbon was used to the side of the base. Everybody loved this homemade mushroom house cake. It was the star of the party, try it for yourself…
