My daughter wanted a My Little Pony theme cake for her 6th birthday. There were only 9-10 girls invited for the party so I didn’t want to make a big 2 tier cake and hence I decided to go with cupcakes and a 6″ cake to blow candles on. I wanted to incorporate sky, rainbow, clouds, grass in the cake that go well with the My Little Pony theme. So the center sky cake with a rainbow and pony topper worked out the best and then I decided to add garden cupcakes around it. To give the center cake good height which can rise above the cupcakes, I made it a 3 layer Devil’s food cake with chocolate mousse and raspberry jam filling. I covered it with buttercream frosting. Added fondant+gumpaste rainbow, some fondant clouds and a pony toy.
The cupcakes are chocolate and frosted with cream cheese frosting. The fondant flowers were made in advance and allowed to dry to get a nice curve shape to them. The cupcake wrappers are by Wilton which add a cute touch to the design. She loved her Homemade My Little Pony Birthday Cake.
