Coolest Nightmare Before Christmas Cake

I was asked to make a three tier Halloween cake for a Halloween/Wedding Party. I started a few days before by making the cake top hill. I used a simple batch of rice crispy treats to shape into the hill. I formed the hill and let sit for 24 hours. I then covered it with fondant and sprayed with black food coloring spray. I sprinkled with black cake sparkles while it was still wet from color spray to make it shiny.

I then formed some black gumpaste into a swirl for the tip on the hill. I also cut a yellow circle out of gumpaste for the moon. I then colored some fondant orange and shaped some pumpkins. I colored some gumpaste grey and cut out a few tombstones. I let them all dry for 24 hours. I painted the face on the pumpkins and writing on the tombstones with a paint brush and some black gel food coloring.

Next I baked the cakes. Two 8 inch red velvet cakes, two 10 inch french vanilla cakes and two 12 inch chocolate fudge cakes. I frosted the top tier blue the middle white and the bottom with orange buttercream icing. I stacked the cakes and then piped the black trees and grey clouds. I added the pumpkins and tombstones.

I placed the hill on the top tier. I attached the moon to the hill with a lollipop stick and some icing. I placed the characters on the top and piped the borders around each tier.

I was finally done. The Homemade Nightmare Before Christmas Cake was a hit!
