Coolest Nintendo DS Birthday Cake

This is a Nintendo DS Birthday Cake that I made for my friend’s son. I simply made a 13×9 chocolate cake and removed a small portion of the bottom to make it more size appropriate. I used regular vanilla frosting from the store because I have found that it is the best consistency to decorate and frost with.

I used some red gel to color the frosting. I did it red because my friend’s son happens to have a red DS. This cake was very easy to make and everyone loved it.

  1. Wow! LUV your idea. I would’ve never thunk it! So simple and the best part? It’s a FROSTED cake :) These days, everything is fondant covered. No offense, but fondant is rather lacking in taste. And the texture, most kids will not eat it. Anyways, thanks for posting this! Awesome idea for a Nintendo DS cake.

  2. Thank you very much,I agree with you – i hate fondant..i have worked with it a few times and will never use it again.I have heard that there is marshmallow fondant that alot of people really like however i have never tried it.I think i will stick with my buttercream :)

  3. My son was a having a gaming theme birthday party I made his invitations look like the DSI with his face on the top screen and the party information on the bottom screen. I wanted the cake to keep with the theme and I went to a popular bakery in Chicago that came highly recommended. The cake was not what I expected at all. I asked them to make a cake shape like a game controller. To me the cake looked like a regular sheet cake with controller elements on top. Later one of my friends informed me that the controller that that was being replicated is the original Nintendo controller. The Nintendo that I grew up on and my son knows nothing about. Your cake looks soo nice I wished I would have make the cake myself as well, then it would have been exactly what I wanted. Again good job the cake look nice.
