Cool Homemade Number One Birthday Cake

My best friend Rachel came to town and wanted to throw her baby daughter, London, a nice big first birthday party. She was going to either buy or make a cake, she just couldn’t decide what to do, so I said I would make a Number One Birthday Cake.

We went to the local store and bought fondant and cake ingredients. I used round pans to create the round cake, frosted it liberally and then laid the rolled out fondant on top. I dyed the rest of the fondant pink, and rolled it out again, then cut a number one shape out of it.

After laying the number one on top of center of the cake (with water to help it stick) I then took some frosting and put a couple of flowers on the cake. With the rest of the pink fondant, I rolled little balls each the same size and placed them around the cake. I originally used water to make them stick but when driving in the car they dried and fell off so I recommend placing them with frosting.

  1. I can’t believe you rolled all those tiny balls to go around the edge of the cake. You must have the patience of Job! Darling cake.
