Coolest Ocean Wonderland Cake

I made this Homemade Ocean Wonderland Cake for my son’s second birthday. He loves fish so we had an ocean themed day. I wanted it to be big enough to show a lot of detail so I stacked two 9 X 13 cakes. Strawberry on the bottom and chocolate on the top. All of the frosting is homemade buttercream.

I used Wilton candy molds for the shells and fish. I melted white chocolate chips and poured it into the molds. To get the marbling effect, I used a toothpick and swirled in Wilton candy coloring. To make the coral I colored the chocolate and using the writing tip I piped it onto wax paper and put it into the freezer to harden. The seaweed is buttercream piped on with the leaf tip. The octopus is a Hostess cupcake without the marshmallow. I frosted it with the star tip and made the tentacles flow over the top and sides forming the two in the front to hold the candles. The eyes are milk chocolate chips.

The sand is frosting I colored with brown icing coloring and the water is light and dark blue icing swirled and in a flowing pattern to look wavy. This cake was a lot of fun and a huge hit.
