Octopus Cake

Octopus Cake

My wife made this octopus cake for our son's 4th birthday. We looked on this site for ideas and improvised a bit. She used a pan that is for a basketball for the body and then Twinkies for the tenticels. It turned out really well!

The body was made with a pan that is used for sports (basketball, soccer ball, etc). She made the two halves two different flavors. Angel food on the top and Devil's food on the bottom.

The icing took a long time to put on the cake, but in the end it turned out great! She used plastic eyes, and licorice for the "mouth". Sweet tarts for the bottoms of the tenticles were fast and easy.

I think everyone at the party enjoyed the cake!
The whole party was a under the ocean theme with helium balloons with long strings for "kelp", Lobster and Shark helium balloon helped give it a ocean feel as well.
