Coolest Old Man Retirement Cake

I was asked by my husband’s aunt to make her husband a birthday/retirement/Fathers day cake all in one. She wanted it to remind him that he was “old”. Her words not mine. So I knew that it needed an old guy.

This Old Man Retirement Cake was the first time I ever used fondant! I made two 11×15 cakes, filled and frosted. With that done I watched lots of Youtube videos on working with fondant and I set out to make a man. I started with his head, then worked my down, his body was all shaped individually and then I used toothpicks to put him together. I then went back and added his hair. I let him dry overnight.

I also created the little table and some books for him to be reading. He is a big baseball fan so I sewed a hammock and pillow out of baseball material. I took five kabob skewers and tied them with twine, twice. I then tied the hammock to the skewers, I put than on the cake first, and then added the guy. Once he was in I used chocolate Neco wafers for the stone path and I added some brown/green tall grass like he had been neglecting the yard.

I found cute little beer candles at the store and put a few on. He thought the cake was very funny, and they were pleased.
