I was asked to make a shoe cake for a friend of mine's husband for his birthday. I thought how am I going to do that? The first thing that I did was come directly to this wonderful website. I got ideas from other great people so that I could complete my ideas.

I just hand carved a 13"x9" rectangle cake out by hand and built it up from there to show the "ankle" part of the shoe.

One major tip that I can give you is to sketch out by hand on a piece of paper first your design and then place it on the cake to carve. Oh, the other tip that I can give is to freeze the cakes. Stops those silly crumbs from ruining your finish.

This cake took me about 4-5 hours in total. I used the star tip for the red, white (around the bottom of the shoe and the black trim. This is my first attempt at this but I'm very proud of it.

Good luck, happy baking and thank you to the coolest birthday website!
