Homemade 50th Birthday Cake

Homemade 50th Birthday Cake

I made this Over the Hill cake for my mom's best friend who turned 50 this year. She is always sending me funny messages with Maxine in them so I thought I would return the favor.

I used a 13x9" pan and baked a Betty Crocker yellow butter cake mix. I used one regular sized can of cream cheese frosting for the crumb coat. I made one batch of marshmallow fondant to cover the cake with.

Once the fondant was on the cake I used a picture of Maxine I found on the internet and modified to fit the theme of the party. I used the picture I found as a guide and hand painted her onto the cake using food coloring and water, a good paint brush that has never touched paint and a craft knife only used with fondant.

I also found a quote and cut it out and placed it on a piece of foam board cut into the same shape. I then glued skewers to the back to make it look like a billboard, and stuck it into the corner of the cake.
