Homemade Owl Birthday Cake
My 2 year old daughter loves owls and I visited this website for inspiration in creating her Owl Birthday Cake. Needless to say, I was in awe of everyone's creativity. I borrowed a few tricks from many previous posters. Many thanks!
Since I did not have access to special cake molds, I made this cake in a 13' x 9' pan using devil's food cake mix. Then I frosted the sides and borders with a mixture of chocolate and vanilla frosting to create a light brown color. Chocolate was used for the wings and face, while vanilla was placed in the belly and upper brow areas. I used the same light brown mix for the accent in the owl's belly.
Oreos and peanut M&M's were used for the eyes. I found gummy bananas from Troll's and cut them in half to make talons, ears and a beak. Pretzel sticks and more peanut M&M's were used for the nest.
