Homemade Pablo Birthday Cake
This Pablo Birthday Cake was a last minute party for my son Nehemiah who LOVES Pablo from the Backyardigans. If you ever seen the show you will love him too. However I live in a remote place so if the theme is not extremely popular anymore there are no options for cakes or parties and I had less than 24 hours to throw it together.
I searched the internet for ideas and most of them were from the cake pan which I did not have. Then a few were of Pablo’s head so I decided to give it a try. I think it turned out great. I found a trick if you melt the icing in the microwave for like 30 seconds (after you get it to the correct color) you can literally pour the icing over the cake for a smooth fondant like appearance, however it has the yummy taste of icing. We piped the eyes.
I used melted candy for the mouth and propeller and sculpted like it was play dough. We used a cupcake for his famous hat. This cake took 3 boxes and 5 16oz of icing.
